New League Champs and Provincials News

Congrats go out to the Ridge Attack for becoming the 2017 WCSLL Champs after a stunning end of the regular season and playoff run! After a 5 game in 8 day stretch in which Ridge went 4-1 and climbed the ladder in the standings to finish 3rd overall, they went on to win 5 playoff games in a row, which included wins over Richmond, Port Moody (Semi Finals - 2 games to 0) and Coquitlam (2 games to 0) in The Finals. The Adanacs are also to be congratulated for finishing 1st overall in the league during the season, and for advancing to The Finals! Well done to both teams!

Next up for five teams from the WCSLL are the Provincials and Treasure Cove Casino Western Canadian Senior Lacrosse Championships in Prince George, BC Aug. 11-13. Never have this many WCSLL teams gone to PG to compete! The multi-time defending Provincial and Western Canadian champion Port Moody Express are again making the trip North, as are the North Shore Indians, Mission CedarKings, Ladner Pioneers and Coquitlam Adanacs. They will be facing the likes of the Airdrie Mohawks (Alberta), Wsanec Arrows (Vancouver Island), and 4 PG circuit teams including first time entrants, Quesnel Crossfire. It's shaping up to be an outstanding weekend of lacrosse to finish up 2017. All the best to each WCSLL teams!

WCSLL Update - April 11, 2017

After the earliest start to a season in league history on April 1st, we have seen some outstanding games played on the turf @ the LEC FieldHouse! There have been several one goal outcomes, meaning there will be even more competition for top spot in the standings come July.

Three teams (Port Moody, Mission and Coquitlam) have jumped out to undefeated 2-0 records on their campaigns that are very much still in their infancy. Each of those franchises have added back some familiar faces and infused some new blood into their rosters. Port Moody and Mission have a head to head matchup on the horizon after the WCSLL reconvenes their games @ PoCo Arena.

Four teams have 1-1 records, while Ladner, Burnaby and the WCSLL's newest franchise for 2017, the Langley Warriors, are still searching for their first W's.

There will be two games this coming long weekend @ the LEC FieldHouse prior to the Vancouver Stealth/Calgary Roughnecks NLL game...Ladner/Richmond @ 1pm and Port Moody/Langley @ 3pm. The Burnaby/North Shore game has been postponed to a later date. All WCSLL teams that have players in town for the Easter long weekend are encouraged to come watch the Stealth attempt to solidify a playoff spot for the first time since the team moved from Everett, Washington! NLL game time is 7pm.

Playoffs Update and Provincials

Due to unsafe and extremely slippery floor conditions last night @ PoCo Blue Arena, the deciding game of The Finals between the PME and Ridge was abandoned with 9:19 remaining in the 3rd period and PME ahead 6-4. No word yet on if, where and when the remainder of the game will be played.

Below is the link for this weekend's 2016 Senior C Provincial and Western Canadian Lacrosse Championships being held @ Bill Copeland Sports Complex and Kensington Arena from Friday morning until Sunday evening. Good luck to all the WCSLL teams involved: PME, Mission, NSI, Ladner, Port Coquitlam and Richmond!

July 11th Update

Just a league-wide reminder that this weekend (July 16/17) there are games in PoCo and Port Moody. Please check the schedule to see when your team plays.

The Playoffs will begin on July 25th with the First Round, single elimination games between the 3rd/6th place and 4th/5th place teams in the standings @ the end of the regular season.

Scores and standings are up to date. Stats will be done later this week.

End of June League Update

The league website has been fully updated, including adding a missing game between Ridge and PoCo and all stats up to June 28th.

A reminder that there are no games on the upcoming Canada Day long weekend.

Ladner and Richmond are playing a league game on June 30th in Richmond.

In the standings, things are quite close! Only 4 points separate the top 4 teams (Ridge 20pts, Port Moody 18pts, Coquitlam 16pts and Richmond16 pts) and there is a log jam for the final playoff spot @ 6th place (North Shore, Ladner and Mission 6pts a piece).

July is a very busy month with two Saturday/Sunday weekends with scheduled games in PoCo and Port Moody. Please ensure your teams are aware of dates, times and locations.

Week 6 Update
There is separation starting to show up in the standings after 6 weeks worth of games, and heading into the Victoria Day long weekend off.

The Port Moody Express have fashioned an unblemished 5-0 record on the strength of some stellar goaltending and a potent power play and despite leading the WCSLL in PIMs. Hot on their heels are three teams @ 8 points and 4-1 records...the Coquitlam Adanacs, Ridge Attack and Richmond Roadrunners. Teams still looking for their first wins include Ladner and Burnaby, one of which should get a win when they play each other on May 28th, the next evening of games after the long weekend off.

Just a reminder that there are some Sunday games in effect, beginning May 29th. They will take place @ the PoCo Arena on the Green rink @ 6:30 and 8:30pm respectively. Check the schedule to see when your team plays.

Week 3 Update

After three weeks of league play, the Richmond Roadrunners have jumped out to a 3-0 record on the strength of their 14-7 win over the North Shore Indians last Saturday. The Port Moody Express (2-0) will look to keep pace with Richmond when they tangle with the NSI, as will the Ridge Attack (2-0) who take on the CedarKings of Mission.

Stats and Standings are all up to date as of the April 23rd games.

Missing NSI Sticks

Last week during or after the North Shore/Burnaby game on PoCo Blue Rink two sticks went missing from a member of the North Shore Indians. These are valuable sticks to the owner of them and they would really like to see them found or returned.

If you saw two lacrosse sticks near the fenced storage cage on the Blue Rink last Saturday please let NSI head coach Rick Mang or another member of the NSI's know asap. Thanks!

Week 1 Scoresheets - Apr. 9, 2016

Unfortunately there will be a delay in updating the player stats from this past weekend's games as too many teams only put a first initial and a last name (ex: C. Comeau), as well as using early-Egyptian hieroglyphics to write with without providing the statistician with a decoder. With there being so many new bodies in the league, not to mention a whole new team in the mix, it is imperative for the webmaster to know first and last names and to be able to read them! This also potentially impacts player eligibility as well.

Scores and standings should be correct and up to date though.

A reminder email will be sent to all team executives this week about:
a) first and last names on the scoresheets
b) not allowing someone with preschool-level or Jurasic-era penmanship to touch the scoresheets

2016 WCSLL Season Starts April 9th

Welcome to the 2016 WCSLL regular season, and to our league's newest franchise, the Mission CedarKings!

The regular season schedule is online, except for 16 TBA games. They will be up in due time, and the venues for these games will be updated soon as well. Also notice that each team will receive two byes during the course of the campaign due to the odd number of teams.

Good luck to all 9 teams!

2015 Provincials Results from Armstrong, BC

Congrats to the Ridge Attack on going 5 and 0 in the Provincials last weekend in Armstrong, BC and bringing gold medals to the WCSLL once again!

The Attack bested the Port Moody Express 8-6 in a closely contested Gold Medal game Sunday afternoon @ Nor-Val Arena. There were multiple lead changes, and some excellent goaltending from both teams. Ridge also defeated the host Armstrong Shamrocks in the semi-finals early Sunday morning, and went unbeaten in the round robin portion of the event with wins over Kelowna, defending champs Westwood Pub Devils from Prince George and North Shore.

Due to roster restrictions, Ridge did not win the Provincial title of the tournie, which went to the "Red Sports Team" PME. In a classy move, the PME gave the Fred Doig Provincial Trophy to Ridge to have during post-game celebrations and beyond. The PME will go on the trophy as 2015 champions though. The Express defeated Victoria, BX Pub Bandits from PG and Airdrie, Alta. in the round robin. It took double OT to get past the Westwood Pub Devils 7-6 early Sunday morning, and then played on fumes vs. Ridge.

Stay tuned for news in the near future regarding next Summer's tournament, which is likely to be hosted here in Metro Vancouver by the Port Moody Express...

2015 WCSLL Champs - PME

Congrats to the Express of Port Moody...the SkullTrains...the Red Sports Team...on repossessing the WCSLL title after besting the Ridge Attack 9-4, with a dramatic 7 straight goal 3rd period. They head to Armstrong for the Provincials this weekend as league champs after battling thru two tough 3 game series', first over Richmond, and then Ridge.

Speaking of the Provincials...the always tremendous host team with a tremendous history in our sport, the Armstrong Shamrocks, are ready to welcome 10 teams to their two venues, the Nor-Val Arena and old Hassen Arena. Best of luck to the following WCSLL teams competing for the Fred Doig Cup:

Port Moody Express
North Shore Indians
Ridge Attack
Ladner Pioneers

The PME will play round robin games tomorrow and Saturday vs. the Victoria Jokers, BX Pub Bandits (Prince George) and the out of province team from Alberta, Airdrie/Calgary Mohawks. The North Shore Indians will see the Westwood Pub Devils (PG), Kelowna Raiders and Ridge. Ridge will play Kelowna, North Shore and Westwood Pub Devils. Ladner will take on Armstrong, Victoria and Airdrie/Calgary.

Semi-Final and Medal Games will be played on Sunday morning/afternoon.

Update - June 8th

Rescheduled games have been posted for Sunday, June 21st in both Burnaby (Kensington Arena) and Port Moody. Consult the schedule page to see when and where your team is playing.

A final reminder that if you haven't let the Armstrong Shamrocks know about your intentions to play in this Summer's Provincials that you need to do so ASAP. Contact Chad Pieper, Manager of the Armstrong Shamrocks Senior C team and tournie co-organizer, at chad.pieper@gmail.com.

Looks like they're expecting a great turnout with multiple teams going from Prince George and Alberta, as well as the PME and NSI's from down here. Kelowna and the host team, Armstrong, are also competing.

Week 3 Update

This is the first news update of the season for the WCSLL, and after three weeks of action, all teams are proving to be capable of winning on any given Saturday!

The Port Moody Express, on the strength of 3 consecutive wins to begin the campaign, are alone atop the league with 6 points. Close behind the PME in the standings are the North Shore Indians, PoCo Hitmen and Coquitlam Cobras with 2 wins a piece and 4 points. The Ridge Attack managed their first win of their season last night and are benefiting from new additions to this season's team. Burnaby, with 2 points and Ladner, who are still looking for their first win of the young season, round out the WCSLL table to date.

Next games are Saturday, May 2nd beginning @ 6:15pm @ both the Green and Blue rinks @ PoCo Arena.

Incomplete Stats, Playoff Update and Provincials
1) Due to the fact I don't have some scoresheets from previous games, the stats are incomplete right now. Apologies for the delay...it will be rectified as soon as they are in my possession.

2) Congrats to the Richmond Roadrunners for finishing in top spot in the league during the regular season, and to the Vancouver Burrards for making the playoffs again as the 6th seed! They will battle the 3rd seeded Port Moody Express @ 7pm July 29th, while the Port Coquitlam Saints (4th seed) will play the 5th seeded Ridge Attack @ 9pm July 29th.

The winners of those games will advance to the semi-finals to play either the top seeded Richmond Roadrunners or the 2nd seed Coquitlam Cobras on July 31st.

***THERE WILL BE NO PLAYOFF GAMES OVER THE BC DAY LONG WEEKEND (Aug 1-4)***

The schedule has been updated with all confirmed floor times and dates up to this point...you will notice that PoCo Arena and Queen's Park Arena have been booked. Other floor times will be added to the schedule as necessary. Please ensure your teams are ready to play for their scheduled games.

Good luck to all teams!

3) The Treasure Cove Hotel/Casino Senior C Provincial Invitational tournament is in Prince George Aug 15-17. If your team is wanting to go up to play either for the provincial title or the Treasure Cove Cup, please email tournament organizer Terry Foulds thfoulds@gmail.com. Confirmed to go so far from the WCSLL are the defending Provincial and Treasure Cove Cup champ Port Moody Express and the Vancouver Burrards.

2014 Playoff Update
We will follow the same format as last season's playoffs for the first round...one and done.

Round 1 is Tuesday, July 29th - 7pm and 9pm @ PoCo Arena (floor and teams TBA)

The second round, Best of 3, will begin on Thursday, July 31st...again games @ 7pm and 9pm @ PoCo Arena (floor and teams TBA). No games over the long weekend.

@ this point with two games left to go in the season for all teams, the only team that has been eliminated from playoff contention is Burnaby. Vancouver (9pts), Ridge (8pts) and Ladner (4pts) are battling it out for the 5th and 6th spots in the dance. Ridge and Ladner will both play Friday/Saturday next week, with Friday night a head to head matchup between the two teams which will likely determine if Ladner can make the playoffs. Ladner must win both games outright (not in OT vs. Ridge), and hope Ridge loses their last two games (again, not in OT). Ridge can leap frog Vancouver if they win one or more of their last two games (in OT or outright) and Vancouver loses one or more of their last two. Port Coquitlam, Coquitlam, Port Moody and top dog Richmond are locked into the top four, but can still move up or down depending on the results of each teams' last two games of the season.

The new date for these games is likely going to be Sunday, July 13th @ Port Moody Arena (one of the two rinks there). Yes, that's the World Cup final game day...so if you care make sure you PVR it ;)

Game times are tentatively set up as follows:

11am - Richmond @ Port Moody
1pm - Ladner @ Vancouver
3pm - Coquitlam @ Ridge
5pm - Burnaby @ Port Coquitlam

Thanks, and see everyone on Saturday night for the last league games prior to the next long weekend!

May 11 Update

****NO LEAGUE GAMES MAY 17th DUE TO VICTORIA DAY LONG WEEKEND****

It's Richmond in first place with an unblemished 3-0 record after 4 weeks of league action. Richmond exacted a measure of revenge on the Coquitlam Cobras with an 8-7 victory last night after Coquitlam dispatched Richmond in the playoff finals last season.

Port Moody got back to their winning ways without a 3rd period offensive explosion, besting Ridge 13-5. Congrats to Burnaby on their first win in the WCSLL as they defeated a new look Ladner squad 11-2 and in the late game it was Port Coquitlam over Vancouver in a tight affair 8-6.

Richmond and Ladner will be playing their two head to head Matchups in Richmond @ Minoru Arena later on this month and again in June.

Playoffs On The Horizon In The WCSLL
This coming Saturday there are still a few things to be decided before playoffs begin in the WCSLL!

With Port Coquitlam battling Ridge for playoff positioning, and Ladner needing to beat Coquitlam to stay ahead of Port Coquitlam and Ridge, there is still lots to play for on what should be a hot night of lacrosse indoors @ PoCo Arena. Ridge takes on Port Coquitlam @ 7:45pm while in the late game, Ladner meets the Cobras of Coquitlam @ 9:15pm. Both games are on the Blue Rink.

Reminder: Port Moody and Coquitlam get byes in the first round of playoffs, while the 3 v 6 and 4 v 5 matchups will be single game eliminations. Watch for playoff dates and times on the website and schedule page...should know when and what those will be this week!
